University Hills was built in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. Once considered as one of Austin’s lower income neighborhoods, it is now booming as part of East Austin’s revitalization trend. Some of the area’s favorite restaurants include Tres Amigos Restaurant and Cantina, Cuban Sandwich Café, Fran’s Burgers, Midtown Sports Café, and Amaya’s Tacos with many more options available. The Mueller Market District is minutes away from University Hills. It offers many trendy retail stores and places to eat and an 83,000 square foot HEB grocery store.
University Hills Schools
Students living in the hidden University Hills neighborhood attend Austin ISD schools in Northeast Austin. Two of the middle schools are split by gender, giving young students the option to attend a single gender school if that works better for their learning needs.
